The Iberian Centre for Research in Energy Storage (CIIAE) held the 1st CIIAE–Society Outreach Conference on December 11, a meeting dedicated to bringing research and energy storage technologies closer to citizens, promoting scientific culture, and highlighting energy innovation in Extremadura.
The conference, held at the Cajalmendralejo building in Cáceres, featured an extensive program that included lectures by leading experts in science, energy, and technology. The speakers included:
- Martín Pérez Estébanez, science communicator from El Electrón Perdido;
- María Escudero Escribano (ICN2), expert in hydrogen and renewable fuels;
- Pedro Gómez-Romero (CSIC–ICN2), specialist in advanced materials and future batteries;
- Cristina Prieto Ríos (University of Seville), who addressed the role of concentrated solar power in stabilizing the energy system.
The event also included the round table “Women Driving the Energy Transition”, featuring researchers leading key advances in energy and sustainability: María Escudero Escribano, María Helena Braga, Blanca Arias, Raquel Ferret, and Vanesa Gil. The round table highlighted female leadership in the scientific and technological fields.
In addition to the presentations and debate, attendees were able to visit interactive stands (CIIAE and Grupo Pitarch) showcasing real technologies related to photovoltaics, hydrogen, thermal storage, batteries, and other innovations, fostering direct contact between research and society.
This initiative is part of CIIAE’s efforts to bring scientific knowledge closer to society, promote responsible research, and contribute to the sustainable energy transition in Extremadura.
