The main objective of ALCHEMHY is to design, develop and upscale at TRL 6 novel electrified production routes for basic chemicals using hydrogen as feedstock and to assess its integration in existing production processes downstream. In particular, the project will focus on the synthesis of: 1) Ammonia and 2) Methanol and on the integration of these novel processes in downstream chemicals and materials applications (i.e. textiles, fertilisers and polymers), significantly reducing the GHG emissions related to these chemicals production. The specific goals that will enable the achievement of the ALCHEMHY main objective are described below, as well as the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure and verify the achievement of these objectives: Specific Objective 1: To develop two novel electrified processing routes for the use of hydrogen as feedstock; Specific Objective 2: To upscale and build at TRL 5 a prototype for each of the targeted processes; Specific Objective 3: To develop and implement digital and modelling tools that facilitate the design, optimisation and upscaling of the use of hydrogen as a chemical feedstock; Specific Objective 4: To carry out a complete demonstration and validation program up to TRL 6 for both ammonia and methanol in the two deployed pilots; Specific Objective 5: To assess the application of the project solutions in downstream processes to produce ammonia and methanol derivatives and the scalability and replicability of the concept within the EU chemical industry; Specific Objective 6: To assure a successful communication, dissemination and exploitation of the project, through strategic and business-oriented commercialization plans.
