DISCHARGE – Design of biochar sorbents and experimental validation for thermochemical refrigeration

The DISCHARGE project is structured around three specific objectives aimed at developing new biochar sorbent materials for thermochemical cooling. First, biochar composites and compacted beds will be designed and optimized to maximize heat transfer and sorption capacity, balancing density, permeability, and conductivity. Second, an experimental bench will be designed, assembled, and validated to study adsorption and desorption dynamics under quasi-isobaric conditions representative of refrigeration cycles. Finally, the project will evaluate the performance of the developed materials through dynamic laboratory-scale tests, determining key parameters such as energy density, adsorptive capacity, specific cooling power (SCP), and cyclability, to ensure their viability for residential and industrial applications.
