Dr. Juan Manuel Pérez

Director of the Electrical Energy Storage Department.

Over his career, Dr. Pérez has been involved in the development of materials with advanced functionalities, both in the field of polymers and in the inorganic materials sector.

Dr. David Parra Mendoza

Director of the Hydrogen and Power-to-X Department.

Dr. Parra was a senior research investigator and lecturer at the University of Geneva (Switzerland), where he coordinated research on the storage of energy and hydrogen from 2016 on.

D. Francisco Javier Gallego Hernández.

Director of the CIIAE Pilot Plants.

Francisco Javier Gallego’s career began at the Spanish truck company Empresa Nacional de Autocamiones (ENASA-Pegaso), in the Madrid Plant and the Technical Center in Barcelona, and he later moved on to ACD, Sistemas de Control de Energía, S.A., a subsidiary of Abengoa, and the Energy Management Systems Division of Control Data Corporation, in Minneapolis, USA.

Dr. Breogán Pato Doldán.

Director of the Thermal Energy Storage Department.

Dr. Breogán Pato obtained a PhD in Chemistry from the University of A Coruña in 2014. His scientific career has been focused on the development of materials with functional properties (dielectric, magnetic, thermoelectric materials) and on finding the relationship between the crystalline structure of these materials and their properties.

Juan Manuel Pérez

Juan Manuel Pérez is the current Director of the Electrical Energy Storage Department of the CIIAE. He has held a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Complutense University in Madrid since 2003. Over his career, Dr. Pérez has been involved in the development of materials with advanced functionalities, both in the field of polymers and in the inorganic materials sector. He has published over 20 scientific articles and taken part in more than 20 international congresses. He has been Principal Investigator in several H2020 projects, as well as of other national and regional projects. He created two R+D+i departments in the two industries, the last one for the recycling of single and multiple cell batteries and also held the post of spokesperson in the Spanish Single and Multiple Cell Battery and Energy Storage Systems Association (AEPIBAL), combining it with a position on the Governing Council of the Energy Storage Technology Platform (BatteryPlat), of which he is a founding member.

Dr. David Parra Mendoza

Dr. David Parra Mendoza is director of the Hydrogen and Power-to-X Department at the Iberian Energy Storage Research Center (CIIAE). Prior to this he was a senior research investigator and lecturer at the University of Geneva (Switzerland), where he coordinated research on the storage of energy and hydrogen from 2016 on. He was also a senior research investigator at the Swiss Competence Center for Heat and Electricity Storage, and visiting researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), after receiving funding from the Swiss National Science Foundation to establish a new partnership. His research is interdisciplinary in nature, and includes the technical, economic, environmental and social dimensions, the latter of which is currently in the process of expanding. He has demonstrated his ability to lead collaborative partnerships in national and international projects. Dr. Parra was formerly a postdoc at the University of Geneva (2014-2016), a PhD student at Nottingham University (2010-2014) and a researcher at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).

Francisco Javier Gallego Hernández.

He is the director of the CIIAE Pilot Plants. Francisco Javier Gallego is a graduate in Industrial Engineering from the Comillas Pontificial University (ICAI), and obtained a master’s degree in Business Management and Energy Audit Specialist at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. His career began at the Spanish truck company Empresa Nacional de Autocamiones (ENASA-Pegaso), in the Madrid Plant and the Technical Center in Barcelona, and he later moved on to ACD, Sistemas de Control de Energía, S.A., a subsidiary of Abengoa, and the Energy Management Systems Division of Control Data Corporation, in Minneapolis, USA. He is an expert in the electrical sector and a specialist in isolated systems, and was Technical Director of the electrical power distributor of Ceuta for over 25 years.

Breogán Pato Doldán.

He is director of the Thermal Energy Storage Department at the Iberian Energy Storage Research Center (CIIAE).

Dr. Breogán Pato obtained a PhD in Chemistry from the University of A Coruña in 2014. His scientific career has been focused on the development of materials with functional properties (dielectric, magnetic, thermoelectric materials) and on finding the relationship between the crystalline structure of these materials and their properties. He developed his career in France (research placement at the Laboratoire de Chimie de la Matière Condensèe, Collège de France), the United States (research placement at the Los Alamos National Laboratory), the United Kingdom (industrial postdoc at University College London), Norway (postdoc at the University of Bergen and principal investigator at EnSol AS) and Spain (ICIQ, Leon Farma)
